Trains And Car Club Are An Ideal Combination

By AA | 29 January, 2020

Travelling by train? Need to get from the station to your final destination and don’t want to wait for a taxi? Maybe a car club could be the answer.

Many people already know that car clubs are an easy solution for flexible and convenient travel, especially if there’s one located near your place of work or where you live.

But they’re also an ideal solution for people making longer trips by train, who need transport for that last part of the trip at their destination.

Using our network of vehicles at or near railway stations and other transport hubs has so many benefits that you can unlock when you open the vehicle with your phone app – you don’t even need a key!

There’s no need to wait when there is a long line for a taxi, and because our vehicles all feature the latest fuel-efficient technology, including hybrid and electric vehicles, you can rest assured that your drive will be as sustainable as possible. It’s doing your bit to improve air quality and traffic congestion.

Our research shows how it’s done

A survey of members showed that two-thirds (66%) have travelled by train and then used a car club to complete the last leg of a journey. More than half (55%) of these members as a result drive on average 71 miles less per trip and therefore fewer miles overall.

Seven out of ten (69%) of those drivers combine car club and train travel at least once per quarter and one in ten (10%) do so at least once per month.

Train plus car club means you can work or relax during the journey with less travel fatigue. One member told us, “It allows me to use train and car to suit their strengths. The train allows me to avoid stressful long-distance driving, and the car allows me to access locations I otherwise couldn't – and having the car at the station makes it a seamless journey.”

All members of Enterprise Car Club, whether personal or through an employer, can pick up any of our 1,400 vehicles across the country – many of which are located at or near a railway station.

Enterprise Car Club vehicles are located within 500 metres of 181 mainline and regional rail stations around the country. Based on estimates of the number of train journeys during 2017 and 2018, more than a quarter (27%) of all UK journeys by rail either begin or end within 500 metres of an Enterprise Car Club bay. That means rail and car club travel can combine to deliver a more sustainable and cost-effective multi-modal solution for many types of journey.

Whether you join privately or through your company, membership to Enterprise Car Club allows access to a growing network of 1,400 on-street vehicles available for rent 24/7, 365 days of the year, in more than 180 cities, towns and communities across the UK – and often within sight of a train station.
