Getting Started with Hybrid
or Electric Vehicles (EVs)

Whether it's a fully electric vehicle (EV), a plug-in hybrid, or a standard hybrid, Enterprise Car Club has got you covered. Over 45% of our vehicles are electric or hybrids. With the soaring popularity of EVs, our aim is to continuously increase this mobility option for our members. Carry on reading to find out the benefits of fully electrifying your travel!

Reduced Costs

All of our fully electric vehicles have reduced mileage costs, meaning you'll only pay 14p per mile! What's more, you won't have to pay to enter any low emission zones.

Zero Tailpipe Emissions

fully electric vehicles don't produce any tailpipe emissions, thus reducing CO2 exposure the public too! For more information, visit our environment page.

Quieter Drive

EVs are so quiet that you won't even realise the ignition is on! This also helps diminish localised noise pollution.

Clean Air Zone

One of the many perks is being exempt from CAZ charges, as all our vehicles are compliant with the criteria. Find out more here

Key Things To Know When Renting An Electric Vehicle

Selecting an EV

You can book any of our vehicles through our top-rated mobile app or website, simply filter your search to electric vehicles or hybrids to find options near you. Using one of our EVs is as easy as any other Enterprise Car Club vehicle, plus we've created simple EV user guides (Which for specific vehicle can be found in the reservation confirmation email, and inside the vehicle). Alternatively, watch our video on How to Charge an Electric Vehicle here.

Live Charge State

To help you plan your journey, our booking platform will show you what percentage of the battery is charged and a mileage range estimate (This value is updated every 15 minutes when not on a reservation, and every 60 minutes during a reservation). You’ll be able to view this when making a reservation via the desktop or on the app. You will see the vehicles battery percentage under the vehicle information section.

Charge Card

Instead of a fuel card, all of our electric cars come with a charge card. The charge card can be found in one of two places:

  • Inside the slot in the back of the key holder located in the glovebox.
  • On the side of the dashboard, to the right of the steering wheel – this is only visible when the driver’s side door is open.

We recommend that the card remains there when not in use to help ensure it does not go missing during your reservation.

As with all Car Club vehicles, you don't pay for fuel or electricity during your reservation as this is covered in the small per mile fee; simply use the charge card provided. Should the charge card not work for any reason, you can claim back the cost by submitting an image of your VAT receipt via the 'My Fuel Receipts' section in the app.

At the end of the booking, using the charge card, simply plug the charging cable back in to the post and the vehicle so that it can be kept charging ready for the next user. Failure to do so carries a penalty of £30 plus. See the Other Charges page for more details.

Nearest Charging Points

Please check the brand of charge card provided with your vehicle as well as the type of charging cable/port to see which charge points are compatible. Should you use a charge point that does not accept the brand of charge card provided with your vehicle you can claim back the cost by submitting an image of your VAT receipt via the 'My Fuel Receipts' section in the app.

You can then check out ZapmapEcotricityCharge Your CarGoogle Maps or Charge Place Scotland to locate your nearest compatible charging post - perfect for pre-planning your pit stops! Please bear in mind that we cover the cost of recharging our electric vehicles. While some charge points may be free to use, please be aware that you will still be charged for mileage.

Charging Post & Charging Cable

All of our electric vehicle bays have a dedicated charging post. To disconnect the vehicle from the charging post, simply hold the charge card over the post until the light turns green - you'll then be able to unplug the cable. If the EV charging point does not have a tethered (attached) cable, the cable belongs to the Electric Vehicle you are unplugging. It is important to always take this cable with you once you have taken the vehicle off charge as the cable belongs to the car and not the charging point. Click here to watch our easy guide on How to Unplug an Electric Vehicle.

EV Charge Timings

Below shows the approximate times to charge our electric vehicles. Please note that the times shown are only a guide as our electric vehicles have aa range of battery sizes and will rarely be charged from 0%. Other factors that influence the charge time include ambient temperature, in-vehicle energy loads, any upper and lower charge restrictions to extend battery life and protect against potential damage, and charging rates slowing down as the maximum charge is reached.

Rapid charger (50kW/h) – Approximately 0-80% in 40 minutes

Fast charger (22kW/h) – Approximately 0-100% in 3 hours

Standard charger (7kW/h) – Approximately 0-100% in 6 hours

EV Range Calculations

How far an electric vehicle (EV) can travel on a full charge will depend on several factors. Elements that will impact your range can be temperature, speed, driving style and use of equipment such as climate control.

One of the most important factors when considering how far an electric vehicle can go is the battery size of the vehicle, measured in kWh. In really simple terms, (in most cases) the higher the kWh figure, the more miles the vehicle will be able to do on a single charge.

Generally speaking, it is advisable to account for 30% reduction in range of the official manufacturer's range to accomodate in-life conditions.
